CSA Basket 15

This week's basket contained: Summer Squash, Winter Squash, Tomatoes, Beets, Eggplant, Jalapeno, Basil, Leeks, Broccoli, Kale, Purple Pepper, Apples, Valencia Oranges, Grapes, Celery, Red Butter Lettuce, Plums, Pumpkins, and Chard. I forgot to include the pumpkin in this picture. It's a good-sized carving pumpkin. Stay tuned for impending jack-o'-lantern. I traded in three summer squash and the beets for garlic, eggplant (baby LOVES eggplant), and tomatoes.

How do you prepare the eggplant for Zoe? Do you think it would freeze well?

Does your CSA go year round? I assume that would be one of the big benefits of living in Southern California...

I just chop off the blossom end, roughly chop up the eggplant, steam it for about ten minutes, then run it through my Kitchenaid food mill. It freezes VERY well.

Yup, year round CSA goodness is one of the perks of SoCal living. Though we have hit Chard Season, which runs from now through the spring and fills up a lot of the basket.
